This is one of the elements of fiction that draws me in and keeps me from getting anything written. Creating a believable environment in which the characters live and breathe is one of my pet peeves. The world has to exist as fully as the personalities of the people who populate it. I’m churning out pages of random notes and details, asking questions and answering those with more questions, there are characters doing the same, from their point of view, and slowly it’s becoming something solid. It’s still very rough, but it has some substance that can be held and felt. Please feel free to throw an opinion on this, I would like to know what you think. More: Read the rest of this entry…

I’ve mentioned that I got the laptop to use for writing, and while I’ve set some programs up, and have a basic outline for the story, the majority of it is still stewing around in my head. My problem is that I have an unknown element that drives one of the characters. Her looking for her own answers is part of what has brought her to where she is as things open up. My dilemma, is do I come up with the answer or do I leave it unknown. I know there are those that like a mystery element, but there are as many people that have to have everything explained, and I understand both sides of the argument.
My issue with it is that I’ve always just said “we will not find out” and now that’s not quite true. I’m getting stuck with some bits relating to this, because I think whether it’s ever put to paper or not, I have to know in my head where she is going and where she came from. It’s getting twisted and tossed about quite a bit, but I am slowly working out some ideas concerning her past.
So what do you think, I know there’s not much here to go on but, do you prefer to read something and have it all out on the table at the end, or is it better to have someone walk away with things left unfinished? There is potential in leaving things unfinished in this part, to continue this character’s story later on, but I’m not going to worry about that until I get this first one finished.
I’ve been doing a lot more knitting than I’m writing about. I have good reason as well, my sister in law just had a baby so I have an excuse to make cute little things like this. In looking at the site and the pattern this was based on, I realized I had the magazine issue with the original pattern in adult sizes too. So now I’m looking at making matching sweaters and shipping them off to England, where they will actually get used
On the gaming front, we’re four bosses down in SSC and looking to take a peek at Hyjal over the weekend. Did I mention that no druid loot ever drops when I’m on a run lately? If I’m not there, it drops right and left, take the Mayfield in, and nothing, nada, zilch, no gear at all. Something good better be coming my way, because I’m sitting on dkp that needs to be spent.
