What to do…

Comments Off

I got a box of yarn yesterday for the Arwen and Merry cardis that I wanted to make for my sister in law and the baby. The colors are so much more vivid than the sample colors on the web, I’m tempted to order more of the blue for myself. My problem now is what to do. I still have to finish the Rogue, I’ve got about 30 more rows on the hood and the sleeves, so that’s a good bit left. I also picked up some stripey stock yarn the other day when I picked up a replacement gauge checker thingy (what are those cards called), but socks are for raid nights because I don’t have to think about it, and making them for the kid, it’s all knit anyway, so those will get done quickly without really trying.

I really really really want to start on the Merry just because it’s alpaca and I love knitting with such a soft yarn, and it’s a beautiful lilac color. I did the swatch yesterday just to get my hands on it, so that’s probably going to win out over standard wool. The kid is at his dad’s for the weekend so I have three days to prepare for spring break next week.

Distractions

I have a 75 pound dog lying in my lap with her nose on my touch pad. I can’t scroll pages or navigate so I’m typing instead. I’m not going to the right sites and she’s not happy about it. She doesn’t care about yarn or gaming stuff, she just wants to go here. I cranked out 20 or so rounds on the Rogue yesterday while I sat thinking that I should be doing some more work on the story I started. It’s funny how they go together. When I get started on knitting something it’s a great time for my mind to wander and as much as I have to concentrate on what I’m doing, I can still work around the ideas that are twisting around in my head.

I would have said my worst distraction was WoW up until a few weeks ago, but then again, I have made a habit of kitting while sitting around during raids and while traveling. I decided to take a break two weeks ago, and I haven’t logged in since. I’ve watched programs that I normally miss, and apparently I’ve missed a nice bit of guild drama as well. I keep saying I should hop back in and see what’s going on, but having my time back to do other things keeps winning out. I guess it’s dealing with a type of burnout, I never got to a point where I didn’t like playing. In fact, I have 3 characters at 70 with another at 65, plus a few little ones as well that were more for goofing around. I had been slacking off a bit to start with before the break, only logging in to do the nightly runs with the guild, but even that isn’t pulling me back in right now. On the other hand, I’m flying through a couple of knitting projects and getting things organized a bit around the house.

I’ve been using Scrivener to organize the writing and I’m quite happy with the way it works. I’ve run a few different writing programs in the past, and have always found them a bit rigid for the way I think. I have a habit of running in circles when I write, in terms of bouncing from one section of a story, to outlining, to coming up with a whole new environment, and I can do that with ease. The fact that I can pull outside information like web links, images, and such into the program helps a lot, and keeps me from getting distracted by the pretty blue and green stumble link. I’m still running the trial for now, but I think I’ll be grabbing the full version this weekend.

Does it surprise me……NOT

I get an occasional spam comment here, they’re pretty easy to spot as they are not from my 15 regular readers. The post this morning about the whole diet thing, got more comments than anything I have written yet and not a one of them made it through the filter. Gotta love the people that maintain the spam lists on the web :)

I’ve also decided to move all that lovely bitching and complaning and weighing stuff over to another spot so it doesn’t clutter up my persona with real life facts. I prefer to let you all believe that I dance around my living room pushing my Dyson in a lace apron and pearls. Get serious, it’s January, I wear a dress with it too.
