I have been thinking about a redesign here for some time. I love the theme I have but at the same time, there are some elements about it that make me a pissy bitch. Back many moons ago, when MT was the only acronym that mattered, I used to do a new layout as often as the weather changed. I think part of why I got away from it was that I switched over to WordPress in the great “OMG we must start paying or deal with licensing stuff” fiasco of ummm whenever that was.
It’s fun going in and trying to remember all the things I’ve forgotten about coding and such, and it’s making me realize that as much as I’m just a mom who has a blog, I still have a good idea of what the industry is currently doing, thanks to having a husband in the middle of that mess. As far as design, I’ve always considered myself an average layout creator. Nothing fancy, as a matter of fact I just figured out how to use a pen tool a few weeks ago with help from the kid. I’ve also made a point of pushing myself to learning my way around the Gimp instead of whining that I don’t have the newest Photoshop. More: Read the rest of this entry…

I’ve got a few things installed here at home now and am working on the new design. If I get off my slacker ass, it should go live some time this week. I think I’ve forgotten more than I remember about coding, and it’s making me a bit nuts. There’s also the possibility that I’m doing this to avoid writing.
Part of this whole process is that I realized I didn’t like how automated things are. I took a bunch of stuff off and wanted to put some other things back in and get back to having fun with this. This is also a great opportunity for me to make myself learn a bit more about the gimp and I’m playing with Aptana Studio as well. (that’s how I came to realize that I forgot a lot about coding) So, in addition to learning new tools, I’m searching the books on the shelf for all the things I have to remember.

I am way too dependent on my rss list anymore. I think that’s part of why I am thinking of the redesign here, I want to get back do doing all this stuff myself and being a bit more in touch like I used to “back in the day” you know, when we hand added every link in a blog roll and stole html fucker! Yeah, it’s like that.
