I love old fashioned monster movies and this was one of my favorites from King. I didn’t go see it in the theaters because Hollywood has a habit of making a mess of things I love. I did pick up the dvd yesterday, with the additional copy of the film in black and white. That’s what the director wanted to do from the beginning. Classic monsters in black and white, the way the old films that inspired the story were done. I have to admit it was brilliantly done, but then I’m a fan of old horror flicks to start with.
What annoys me is that the powers that be thought that the film going public wouldn’t go for a black and white film in this day and age. Are we that jaded that we need to explicit lifelike splatter and can’t appreciate the subtle effect and atmosphere the you can only get in greyscale? I am happy with the end, if it had been different I would have played frisbee with the disk in my back yard.
My hands have been stiff the last few days, and I made the mistake of asking my husband’s opinion. “Is it because I’m getting old and creaky, or is it because I’m knitting too much?” His reply—”Both” after which he promptly disappeared into his upstairs office. I think I heard him shifting things in front of the door.
The back of the Rogue is done, and I’m off to start on the front cables. I’ve been on a bit of a movie binge lately, it’s the curse of having “on demand” service and fearnet. I’ve watched some right shite over the last few days, but it’s mainly to have background noise while I knit. I also caught up on In Treatment, I love being able to watch the whole week’s worth on Mondays. I will not give anything away, but holy shit can they just throw everything at you in one week?
I did get around to renting Fido. If you love zombies and need a good laugh, you have to see this one.
We’ve got friends over, so not much to say. I’m goofing off today, cooking a roast and playing WoW. All in all, a pretty good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
