Many years ago when I started blogging the first time around, the kid was a wee thing and had his own site as well. We both ran on Movable Type, and I prided myself on his cool Yugio and later Harry Potter layouts. His site was more for the grandparents and such, updates about school and fun games he found, little kid stuff, but it was a great way of getting him to write.
He gave up on it about some time ago, about the same time that I shut down my first blog. I’ve tried to get him interested again, because he has a great way of looking at the world, and he comes out with some insane shit that needs to be shared. In the last year, he’s set up a twitter account and does use it occasionally. I don’t follow him on mine but I do check it to see what he’s up to on occasion. He’s also following suit of many kids from school and has a facebook account.
A few weeks ago he asked us if he still had a web space because he wanted to try the whole blog thing again. We got him set up with a clean WordPress install, and he picked out a free theme he liked and got everything sorted. Likewise, I’m not going to link it here just yet. I’m curious to see what he comes up with. The cool part is he’s learning about coding and design in his computer class at school and I think part of this new interest is giving him a place to show off the things he’s working on for classes. The best part, is that he’s always been a writer. His teachers love his short stories, and he is constantly coming up with ideas. I’m hoping this will encourage him to share his work.
Can you tell? I’ve been fighting between keeping this thing semi anonymous as far as throwing actual names out there but I’m realizing that it really doesn’t matter at this point. I’m just going to keep at it the way I have been, and if some things happen, then they happen and I’ll deal with them later.
I will say that I love the guys over at WooThemes for their brilliant templates. There’s a lot to mess around with on the backend, but it’s getting to a point that I like the way it’s starting to look, and it definitely is faster than me trying to open a code window and blow things up on a regular basis. Everyone is happy this way, I don’t make my husband cry and I don’t pull my hair out and kick the kid.
The weather here is crap, so off to make tea and poke around in here some more. If you see something that doesn’t look to be working, let me know. (don’t mention the featured vid thing…I know :b)
I actually tend to look at the code of links I add to my site. While stumbling this morning I ran across a cute test that rated your blog’s readability level, I thought it was rather clever. According to the scan it did, I write on a high school level. I was going to add the cute little graphic to my site until I caught the alt tag in the image for cash advance…yeah if you cut and paste the link for the image it sends people to a site to get cash advances… nice try assholes but no go. Not only do I write, but I can read as well. Just a note for those that love taking online quiz thingys, yes I used the word thingy twice, bite me. Please read any code before you add things to your site so you don’t unintentionally help the spam/asshats out. /psa for wanker awareness
There’s a bit of nudging and shoving to be done still, but I have the gallery moved from my other site to here. That’s a start. I’m going to be shifting some older content from there over the next few days, and then I’ll let everyone know to come here. Yeah me and my not being able to sit still. If you run across the site and find something broken, please let me know, I’m still finding small things but it looks like the majority of it is working as intended.
I got a gallery module installed and the css is blowing out on the left side….must find bad bit…one pixel off….can’t see….arrrgggghhhhhh yeah something like that
I downloaded and looked at code on more templates than I care to admit to today. It’s funny to see people modify things and leave completely unused blocks of code in a design 
So I grabbed some generic code, slapped my own css on it, cause I’m anal that way, (that’s gonna make for some nice searches later) and I managed to get things up and running with only calling for help twice. I’ll get around to writing up what exactly I did in case anyone wants to bother looking at it, and I’m considering some photoshop hints on swapping colors and such as well. That just sounds way too industrious for me, must be the “Saturday Night Booze” talking.
Well, here I am. I watched a rugby game that didn’t go the way I wanted it to…..out of bounds my arse, you wankers! My ex came over to watch the game, yes we are on good terms like that as long as I don’t have to deal with him for more than a few hours. It was funny because he always has issues finding the house because they’re all kind of similar out here in the sub division and he mentioned that he knew ours because we are one of 2 houses down the entire street that have out Halloween decorations. Yep it’s gonna be another year of pissing off those neighbors who sit in darkened houses and pray for all of us godless heathens who celebrate the Devil’s day. /roll eyes
