let’s get my real thoughts on this first….AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH

Ok, now that that’s done, I’m working on something and this weekend I’m going to rip the site down and get the 2.8 WP up here and installed. Unfortunately I’ve been a lazy cow and used the hosting installer to set everything up so it’s slightly off where things should be and they never have the newest versions. I’m over that bit. So next time you come here and see default templates, know that I’m making my husband cry and pulling out my hair to get something done. I should probably go feed the kid and the dogs too.

The good news is, I’ve learned more about the template system here than I did before because I wanted some clever bits and had to figure it all out myself. I shall make wordpress my bitch….I will…

Needing a change

I’ve got a few things installed here at home now and am working on the new design. If I get off my slacker ass, it should go live some time this week. I think I’ve forgotten more than I remember about coding, and it’s making me a bit nuts. There’s also the possibility that I’m doing this to avoid writing.

Part of this whole process is that I realized I didn’t like how automated things are. I took a bunch of stuff off and wanted to put some other things back in and get back to having fun with this. This is also a great opportunity for me to make myself learn a bit more about the gimp and I’m playing with Aptana Studio as well. (that’s how I came to realize that I forgot a lot about coding) So, in addition to learning new tools, I’m searching the books on the shelf for all the things I have to remember.

My baby is growing up…

Many years ago when I started blogging the first time around, the kid was a wee thing and had his own site as well. We both ran on Movable Type, and I prided myself on his cool Yugio and later Harry Potter layouts. His site was more for the grandparents and such, updates about school and fun games he found, little kid stuff, but it was a great way of getting him to write.

He gave up on it about some time ago, about the same time that I shut down my first blog. I’ve tried to get him interested again, because he has a great way of looking at the world, and he comes out with some insane shit that needs to be shared. In the last year, he’s set up a twitter account and does use it occasionally. I don’t follow him on mine but I do check it to see what he’s up to on occasion. He’s also following suit of many kids from school and has a facebook account.

A few weeks ago he asked us if he still had a web space because he wanted to try the whole blog thing again. We got him set up with a clean WordPress install, and he picked out a free theme he liked and got everything sorted. Likewise, I’m not going to link it here just yet. I’m curious to see what he comes up with. The cool part is he’s learning about coding and design in his computer class at school and I think part of this new interest is giving him a place to show off the things he’s working on for classes. The best part, is that he’s always been a writer. His teachers love his short stories, and he is constantly coming up with ideas. I’m hoping this will encourage him to share his work.
