Lots of stuff this morning

This was my desk.  The picture was taken mid cleaning so it looks a lot less cluttered than it was.

old desk

We’ve talked around getting something better for myself and the kid with more room for both, so thanks to tax refunds we did and now we’re working at setting everything up like this…

new desk

I’m still trying to find places to put all the stuff that I had piled on the bookshelves and in the corners of the old desk, there are probably going to be a few more trips to Ikea and some power tools involved, but that’s for later.  Shelves or cabinets where the cork boards are is going to happen.

I also sucked up and got this over the weekend…

laptop

I have promised myself that it’s going to be for writing, so I don’t get stuck having to sit here to do everything, and I’m not going to install any games *coughwarcraftcough* on it.  We’ll see how long that lasts, anyone wanna place bets, now is the time.

Goblins, faeries, bogarts…

yep, we’re heading to see the Spiderwick Chronicles today.  I’m hoping it’s half as good as the books.

Update::  It’s not a bad movie, but it’s not the books.  I’ll gripe tomorrow, I’m currently playing with my new toy.  I’ll just leave it by saying that I really hate that the powers that be can’t let people have bad things happen in something that kids might watch.

books, knitting books that is…

We hit B&N yesterday to pick up some ruby manuals for the husband and I found a couple books that ended up following me home as well. Rowan is one of those groups of designers that can go from ‘Oh wow I must make that now in 10 different colors and wear nothing else ever again” to “Oh wow what the hell were they smoking when they came up with that one” in a single turn of a page. Luckily Knitting for Him manages to be a book full of the first statement. The husband said he liked some of them. This doesn’t mean that he’s getting a sweater, because he complains about them being too warm here in Georgia, but it means that I can make him one that I can wear. (yes a plan so cunning you can stick a tail on it and call it a weasel)

Next into the shopping cart was Knit Kimono, some are a bit more than I would want to deal with, and I’m not one of those people that finds the need to wear quirky ethnic clothing to be cool, but a few of the designs are dead on awesome, great long lounge around the house looking fabulous kind of things that I want to wear when I win the lottery and can sit around and watch someone else don the pearls and push the dyson around.

Last but cutest is a book of Amigurumi, there was a small squee that may have happened in the store while looking through this one, but I’m not going to say it was me. We’ll all just agree, nod and move on from there.

Looks like I’m going to have a lot to do now. I am trying to finish up a few things to ship over to my sister in law for her new baby, and some net friends just let it slip that they’re expecting as well. I have much to do, but now I can make cute little toys to go with the clothes.
