knitting, usually, but today I have a book. This Booky Wook specifically, so I will be busy for most of the day. Maybe, I’ll get some knitting done, probably not, but I’ll think about it.

Random morning thoughts
Comments OffI tend to browse through the news on Google in the morning, and since I’m sitting here at the hospital and forgot my WoW authenticator, I’m being forced to surf and think. I just saw where another cabinet nominee has tax issues. Where the hell do these people stash their brains? I’m amazed more and more over the number of people in power in various elected positions that can’t be arsed to do what should be a no brainer. You do it every year, there’s a ton of crap all over the place about getting taxes done early, people who can do it for you, yada yada. Are these people so delusional that they don’t think it will matter? I’m almost ready to root for the IRS when it comes to audits from now on.
Actually I’m starting to agree with many others that I read in thinking that I’m one of a handful of people left in the country that didn’t go overboard on credit and keeps their books straight. Granted we have some issues, but compared to most, we’re in good shape. I at least had the common sense not to fall for the buy a bigger house bs a few years back.
Retro Distraction
Comments OffA long time ago, on an internet far far … ummm yeah… Remember MUDs, MUSH, MOOs and all those lovely text based environments? They’re still there. I was an active player of DragonRealms for many years, but I got away from playing and forgot about it in the fog of 3D graphic environments that suck your life away into the void. The kid has gone on a Terry Pratchet reading binge as of late, mainly because the husband and I have been throwing the books at him for long enough that he’s tired of being bruised and gave in. This has led to a lot of giggling, snickering and general silliness in conversations around the house, which in turn led us to talking about a MUD based on Discworld that we both remembered.
I had never played it, but I knew it was there, and the kid took it upon himself to not only find it but to start playing, and that led to me creating a character as well, because, honestly, how can you not want to be a witch and squint scathingly at people and watch them wince in pain. It’s been a fun distraction for all the serious stuff going on around here with the upcoming surgery. If you want a unique way to kill a few hours, by all means, go have a look.
Spring Break Begins
Comments OffIt’s Monday, and the kid is off for the week. His dad and I got together and decided to lift the grounding/video game ban because I personally will go insane if he has nothing to do but sit around and read books and expect me to entertain him for the whole week. On a good point, the two weeks of no fun appears to have made an impression as his room is clean, not just clean by picking things up but clean to the point that I’m not afraid of my parents coming this weekend to visit clean. He is also sitting on a 95 in math so far this period and the other grades are showing a bit of improvement as well. Now to see if I can live through a week of Smash Bros. and Halo.
What do you do…
Comments OffThe kid is having issues at school again, mainly in math. We get a report every 3 weeks from the teacher and he’s dropping again. The bad part is, it’s the extra work that he could be doing to pull up his overall grade that’s not getting turned in. She gives them extra credit work, it doesn’t count against them if they don’t do it, but it counts toward a portion of their grade if they do it. I know for a fact he’s doing the work, he’s just not turning it in and keeping his classroom folder up to date. I don’t know what to do at this point. We have gone in and talked to the teacher, I’ve talked to him, and sat down and helped him reorganize his notebooks and such. The only thing left here is to unplug him. I hate that option, but I can’t think of any other way of getting the point across.
