It’s been over a month since we sat down and decided that we really needed to cut back on extraneous expenses. While most people would say keep the land line and ditch the cell phones, we did the opposite. I feel better knowing that I have a means of contacting people if I’m out on the road, or the kid is at a friend’s house, and having Andy able to call me and let me know that the trains are running late is a huge help to saving us time in the afternoons.

As I was sitting here this morning, watching the news and taking pics of the pups, I realized that I’m already used to the silence during the day. On normal days before we dropped the phone I would get an average of 3-4 calls, mostly from charity drives and companies that we already do business with (ATT wanting to sell me DSL and Comcast wanting to sell me phone service) Gotta love marketing. Now there’s nothing. I still try and make donations to the charities I support, and I know when their drives are, or when I have something extra that I can throw in an envelope.

The big thing for me is that when my cell rings, I know it’s someone I want to hear from. There are no sales, few misdials, it’s generally a pleasant thing to hear a ring during the day. Strange how something so simple can make such a difference.
