We have conversations occasionally that end up with movie references that the kid doesn’t get. I always end up looking at him and thinking, how has he not seen that yet. This is a list of the movies that the kid needs to see. It’s mostly stuff that I grew up watching, but not all, some of them are just films that made an impression on me. If I’ve left something off, give me the title and the reason for it to be added to the list. I’m more than happy to blame someone else for messing up the kid. I’ll cross them off as he watches them.
The official list of films the kid needs to see :
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
The Breakfast Club
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai
Some Kind of Wonderful
The Shining

HOW HAS HE NOT SEEN THE SHINING?! OR THE BREAKFAST CLUB?!
I thought that those were, like… mandatory viewing nowadays.

How many of the Kevin Smith movies has he seen? Clerks should be on every angsty teen’s movie list. Chasing Amy might wanna wait until he’s..umm.. Oh, gawd!! I can’t think about that! I knew him when he was a midget!!
I feel old and dirty now.

We got Monkey started early:
Dark Crystal
Labyrinth
Neverending Story I & II
Clash of the Titans
He has also watched full seasons of Land of the Lost, HR Pufnstuff, Star Blazers, and Voltron.
He was a well prepared child of the 70′s/80′s when he started kindergarten last year.
He has seen Buckaroo Banzai, but not yet grasped the greatness. Most of the rest of your list will have to wait at least a couple of years still.
Oh, and he can not for the life of him figure out why none of his friends have watched ‘Interstella 5555′ 82135623 times like he has.
